Pool Safety

It is now summertime in Arizona, which means folks are spending more time in their pools cooling down. Please be careful in and around water at all times. Keep these easy tips in mind this summer – and all year round:

  • Always watch your children around any body of water.
  • Designate a water watcher. Remember, a child can drown in as little as 2 inches of water.
  • Install a fence around your pool and a self-closing, self-locking gate.
  • Enroll your children in swimming lessons.
  • Keep lifesaving equipment next to the pool.
  • Register for an American Red Cross CPR course by calling (602) 336-6660.

Have a fun and safe summer! Remember, Arizona is a great place to relocate to or own a vacation home due to the many lakes that are nearby. Although it is hot, there are numerous ways to cool down and have a great summer.

Before leaving for your vacation this

summer, there are a few safety precautions you should take to protect your home and belongings:

i>Lock all doors and windows.

  • Set light timers inside and use photo cells in porch lights (motion sensors).  I always insure an interior light is left on at all times.
  • For those neighbors you have great trust in, ask them to pick up your mail and newspapers when you are gone on vacation for an extended period.  It is also easy to have your mail held at the post office

and temporarily stop your newspaper delivery (if that applies to you).

  • Invite a trusted neighbor to park in your driveway during your absense to give the appearance of someone at home.
  • Do not forget your garbage cans; ask a neighbor to bring them in after they have been dumped.
  • Leave an emergency contact number with that trusted neighbor.
  • DO NOT POST on social networks about your trip beforehand. Clever thieves are using Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other sites to find who is away from home.
